The people behind Tăşuleasa Social have embarked on the arduous and challenging enterprise of teaching the youth the sound and deep-seated values that should be at the core of a healthy civilization. And yes, they do believe that change is possible: maybe difficult and gradual, but still achievable.
The organization was founded back in 2000 by a group of people who believe in the respect for nature, in teaching children – even those with behavioral problems – and in getting young people involved in social and environmental issues. Two of their most successful projects have been the plantation of trees and the cleaning and greening of polluted areas. Progress is slow but constant, and as a result, people are becoming more socially and environmentally conscious.
One of their latest projects is the trekking school. In the same spirit of reverence towards nature, Tăşuleasa members have set for themselves the challenge of teaching people everything there is to know about exploring the untamed and capricious natural areas of Tihuţa Pass and the Călimani Mountains.
To the initiated, it will come as no surprise that there are many things to know on the subject: appropriate equipment, orientation on the mountain and the protection of nature. Most of us have to learn these things through experience, but a few lucky ones will get the chance to learn them from licensed instructors.
Who is the project destined for? Basically, for anyone over 18 who is interested in learning about mountain geography and the environment. The course is completely free and includes accommodation and three meals a day. Plus, the trainees will practice on high quality equipment: tents, sleeping bags, rucksacks and sleeping pads.
However, it is not very simple to be accepted onto the program. The organizers reserve the right to select those who will participate: people who fit the profile they are looking for.
