The waterfall is impressive because it has a height of 30 meters and because the water flows over a jagged stone wall. Standing at the base and watching the powerful torrent burst at the top and pour over the abrupt wall can be an overwhelming experience.

The fall is located at an altitude of 1.000 meters and is composed of two steps – the second one wider than the first. The water falls into a hollow at the base of the first step and then spreads over the wider wall of the second step, creating the impression of a wedding veil. This resemblance is what might have inspired its name (The bride’s veil), although the locals have a different explanation for the name’s origin. They say that a long time ago a bride fell from the top of the rock over which the water flows and her veil attached to the rocks. When the wedding guests came upon the scene of the accident, they started to cry over the lost life, their tears creating the waterfall.

For the locals, life means explaining natural phenomena through charming anecdotes and being completely at one with nature. In fact, the villages that surround the base of Mount Vlădeasa (1836 m) seem to fit perfectly with their surrounding environment. This area maintains a slice of authentic life which has not yet been invaded by urbanization. Spending a holiday here helps you get in touch with nature and gives you the opportunity to meet honest and hard-working people.

Plus, there are many things that you can do in order to make the most of your time. You can go fishing, rock climbing, hiking or ride an ATV. In the winter, the waterfall freezes and creates a wall of ice that can be climbed on.

Another interesting thing that you can experience here is the only rural slang that exists in Romania. It was invented by the local glaziers in order to preserve the secrets of their trade. But since the profession has died out, there are only a few people left who speak the language.
