The "Nicolae Minovici" Museum in Bucharest, celebrates its 111 anniversary with an interesting exhibition: "The Minovici Brothers - Medical Pioneering and Spiritual Universe"

Nicolae Minovici was an important Romanian forensic doctor who founded the “Salvation Society” in 1906 and the first emergency hospital in Romania, in 1937. He also served as director of the Legal Medicine Institute in Bucharest between years 1933-1940.

In 1903, Nicolae Minovici, who had just completed his doctorate in Paris, presented a project for the construction of a villa - "something that has never been seen in Bucharest" - to his dear friend architect, Cristofi Cherchez. In 1905 the works began, and in 1906 one of the most beautiful houses built in the Neo-Romanian style was finished. The architecture of the villa denotes balance and a great sense of proportions, the style being dominated by traditional Romanian elements.

In 1906, the first Romanian museum of Romanian folk art opened here, consisting of rich private collections of fabrics, wooden objects, peasant furniture, ceramics, icons, decorated eggs, traditional musical instruments, objects of use, etc.

In 1936, Nicolae Minovici donates to the commune of Bucharest the property and the collection of folk art, and the villa will become a national art museum called "Prof. Dr. Nicolae Minovici" Folk Art Museum.

In 2004, the villa has become part of the national heritage, being classified as a historical monument.

After a restoration process, which lasted almost 10 years, in May 2016 the museum is reopened to the audience with an inedited exhibition: "Minovici Brothers - Medical Pioneering and Spiritual Universe".

The exhibition is dedicated to the pioneering activity in medicine and pharmacology of the Minovici brothers (Mina, Nicolae and Stefan) and presents for the first time exhibits from the pedagogical museum of pathological anatomy of the National Institute of Legal Medicine "Dr. Mina Minovici"(such as the collection of human tattoos made by Mina and Nicolae Minovici since the 19th century), Nicolae Minovici's forensic kit, the microscope used by the Minovici brothers in their forensic practice, but also numerous documents relating to their scientific work. The exhibition can be visited until June 25, 2017.
