One of Romania's greatest assets is its nature. The virgin forests, together with the unspoiled and varied wildlife found in the country, are a real treasure, being increasingly appreciated and recognized all over the world. However, the wood business is also growing in Romania, and these natural riches are slowly being jeopardized, especially by illegal deforestation.
Fortunately, there are many afforestation and nature protection projects initiated by various NGOs and supported by volunteers. Planting in Romania is one of them, but this project seems to be the one that wants to stand out in 2018. With a rich history of afforestation already under its name, the initiative aims to coordinate in 2018 the largest planting project in Romania, not so much from the point of view of the wooded area, but from the perspective of the variety of actions taken. Thus, planting operations will not be limited to forest sites, but will also involve urban planting, planting in schools, high-altitude planting, and a social involvement program designed to promote the eco-spirit in society.
In total, approximately 70,000 trees will be planted in 5 distinct actions, with around 2,300 volunteers expected to attend. As far as the social involvement program is concerned, it is quite innovative for Romania, in the sense that the volunteers participating in the afforestation actions will be registered by the Planting Association in Romania and implicitly will receive points for each afforestation. The points accumulated through this social involvement will be used in the future for the purchase of tickets to social events (theater, opera, etc.).
