Top 5 ski resorts in Romania

There are many ski resorts in Romania that draw thousands of tourists every season. But there are a few that are so well equipped and high standard that they will make your skiing experience extremely luxurious and comfortable

Valea Prahovei

Valea Prahovei

The most visited resort in Romania is Poiana Brasov, located at the foot of Postavaru Mountain. It is at an altitude of 1030 m and 12 km from Brasov. The resort is visited by many foreigners and it was actually voted as the cheapest resort in Europe by the English. Due to the climate, the snow lasts for 120 days a year.

Poiana Brasov is the largest ski resort in Romania, with 12 slopes, a lake, a slope for sledge riding, many cables, a ski lift, 7 chairlifts and artificial snow. For those who want to enjoy a Romantic escape, there are also horse sledge rides.

The rest of the 4 resorts in this top are all located in the Valea Prahovei area. The first is called Predeal and is located 25 km from Brasov. The resort has around 5.000 places for accommodation and 8 ski slopes. There are also 2 skating rinks, a ski trampoline, a lighting system and snow cannons. It is also a very beautiful resort to visit off season, as there are many trails that start here.

Number 3 on our list is the resort called Busteni, which is located at an altitude of 850 m. Besides the opportunity to practice winter sports, the resort can offer many other cultural tourist attractions. First, worth visiting are Cantacuzino Castle, built in 1910 or the Cross of the Heroes of the Nation. There are many other natural wonders in the area, like the oddly shaped mountains called Babele and Sfinxul and the Shouting Waterfall (Cascada Urlatoare).

Number 4 is the resort called Sinaia.  It is called “The Pearl of the Carpathians” because of the many tourist attractions in the area. There is Peles Castle, the former summer residence of King Charles I, the Sinaia Monastery and the memorial houses of George Enescu, Nicolae Iorga and Cezar Petrescu.

And finally, number 5 is Azuga, a young resort 6 km from Busteni and 7 from Predeal. Although it has only been around for about 20 years, it has become one of the most popular resorts in Romania, having many ski slopes, a cable, 3 chairlifts and 3 baby skis.
