Ialomița Cave and Ialomița Monastery, Bucegi Mountains

Created by Horoaba Creek, Ialomiței Cave is a natural masterpiece made during millions of years. A cemetery of monks is found at the entrance to the cave, hundreds of years old, which is said to be charged with supernatural energies. Dowsing measurements were made which showed that the place carries a special energy load, but without being able to detect the source.

There is a place called "Altar" In the depths of the cave, where the arrangement of stalactites creates an image similar to a church altar. This has been a place of worship for the ancient anchorites. A stream of pure water, without any residue, makes its way through the cave. It is said to be a "spring of living water."

The Dacians considered this water to be divine by its nature. Geologists say there are several limestone and clay filters, as well as silver deposits, over which water passes, therefore it is truly purified. Also here is a large stone, about which the legend says that it was given to the people by the god Zamolxe himself, in order to fulfill their desires when they touched it. Legend says that St. Andrew himself, the Saint that had Christianized the Romanians, had lived in this cave for a while.

At the entrance to the cave is the church dedicated to the "Holy Apostles Peter and Paul", built during the sixteenth century by Mihnea Voda, ruler of Wallachia. It is said that on his way to Transylvania, around 1510, he took refuge in a cave for a while, fleeing from the Turks. Then he built a church as a sign of thanksgiving to God for the shelter offered.

The story of the place of worship is lost in the dawn of time. The church, originally built of wood, burned four times during four hundred years, being rebuilt each time. In time, a body of cells was added to house the monks. The current settlement was built in 1901, and in 1994 the construction of a new church began, the works being completed two years later.

If you arrive in Bucegi Mountains, on the road that passes through Moroeni, Dâmbovița County, do not hesitate to visit this sacred place. Here you will be able to travel in time to the Jurassic and you will enjoy the beneficent, spiritual energies.
