A young man from the Republic of Moldova wants to revolutionize the beer market in Romania

The Bessarabian is already being seen as the initiator of the ”beer to go” concept in Romania after he opened a beer shop in the city of Cluj, where customers have the opportunity to take draft beer home in plastic bottles

Beer's Point - a ”beer to go” concept in Romania

Although not a name on the market of beer producers, Romania is a country where beer is widely consumed. In 2017, it ranked 7th in Europe in terms of beer consumption for the previous year. Still, few Romanians are actual connoisseurs when it comes to the drink. For the vast majority of Romanians, beer must be cold, blond and not too bitter. Experts, however, say that none of these conditions is a "must" for the beer to be considered good.

That's also what the entrepreneurs behind Beer's Point, a shop selling nearly 150 types of beer, are saying. Here, customers get a wide variety of beers, getting their desired one directly from the barrel and then taking it home in a 0.5 liter, 1 liter or 2-liter plastic bottle. The validity of the beer is 48 hours from the date of purchase as long as it is kept away from the sun and preferably cold. Thus, the properties of beer are not lost, and its freshness can be appreciated even if the delivery is made in plastic bottles. According to the initiator of this ’beer to go” concept, another bias in Romania is the fact that bottling beer in plastic is harmful. Indeed, beer can lose its properties in case of long exposure to plastic, but there is no risk for the 48-hour time frame recommended by the staff at Beer's Point.

That is why the project is designed not only to deliver beer to consumers, but also to educate them about the consumption of this product, about the different ways it is produced, about the fermentation process and, of course, about the varied tastes that beer can cover. In this respect, the store promotes different types of beers from all over the world, but an important part of its offering is also made up of Romanian craft beer, which is an increasingly developed niche in Romania, one that Romanias should probably know more about.
