To get to Topolnița Cave, you shall follow the narrow paths framed by towering trees, accompanied by the murmur of the adjacent rivers, on the King's Road, a road frequently used by King Mihai.
The surrounding wilderness will take you to prehistoric times. The waters of the Topolnița River enter the cave through the Prosacului Gate (67 meters height), the place through which, during of years, the water has opened an entrance gate, hitting hard on the rock that stands in its way.
After the gate opened, the waters continued to dig the rock, carving deeply into the galleries and leaving behind spectacular karst formations. The waters have created a true work of art.
The cave has a length of 11,000 meters and five access roads: Gura Prosacului, Gura lui Ciocârlie, Peştera Femeii and two openings at Găurinţi. Stalactite and stalagmite forests, enchanting karst lakes, wonderful waterfalls, dizzying abysses, bizarre forms: The Great Candle, the Candle Forest, Great Stalagmites Dome, Crystal Lake, Mineral Delta, Suspended Corridor, Confluence Hall, Twisted Hallway - all this delights and fascinates the viewers.
The galleries with huge halls are arranged on four levels. The most important of all is Racoviță Gallery ( 1,900 meters length), considered to be the most impressive and the most beautiful speleological gallery in the Carpathians. The creek passing through has facilitated a diverse fauna. It is also worth noting the existence of an impressive colony of bats.
The interior of the cave also impresses with the bizarre shapes and huge sizes of the speleotherms, but also with the structure and dimensions of the cavern and the richness of existing archaeological, mineralogical and paleontological resources.
The cave is open to the public only once a year, during a special holiday that takes place in August. Being a protected site, it can only be opened with the approval of the Romanian Academy during the rest of the year.
