IPEC Alba - a success story

As stated on the company website "IPEC SA represents not only a successful business but also Innovation, Performance, Efficiency, Competence". This seems to be true for more and more Romanian companies which are starting to assert themselves both locally and regionally and even internationally. IPEC confirms this trend and it also confirms the fact that persistence and perseverance can turn a dream into reality. This explains why a family business founded in the year 1990 is now one of the most modern ceramics companies in the world. Unfortunately, virtues such as patience and long-term vision are increasingly rare among entrepreneurs nowadays, most businessmen wanting to achieve big and immediate gains without realizing that a real success story is built in time.

In the case of IPEC, the first fruits of the company’s labour came in 1996, when the company started shipping products for IKEA. Automatically, with this contract the company’s entire set of mechanisms needed to be adjusted and oriented towards mass and series production, forcing the company to direct most of its development in this direction. Thus, one step at a time, the company grew, managing to double its production capacity every three years and to now reach a point where it produces 1% of the world’s plates.

However, as the old saying goes, it may be easy to reach the top, but the real challenge is to hold that position…so, in order to do that, one needs a long-term vision and the ability to adapt a company’s development strategy to existing conditions. IPEC did this very well by investing heavily in research and development as well as technology and thus it managed to introduce robots in its production process ever since 2005, with plans to have to achieve full automation inside the factory by 2020, when employees are expected to have only supervisory tasks, not execution ones.

Consequently, with such a mindset and with such success, the company brings benefits not only to its bosses but also to the local community, by providing jobs, training opportunities for young people as well as serving as an example for other entrepreneurs looking to set up a business.
