The thermal waterfall from Topliţa - a fantastic monument created by nature, a unique tourist attraction in Romania

Topliţa is a beautiful city with a great tourist potential. Set in the north of the Giurgeu Depression in the Eastern Carpathians, on the upper course of the river Mureș River, surrounded by the Calimani, Giurgeu and Gurghiului Mountains, the city offers a beautiful surrounding scenery

The most interesting attraction of the city is the cascade with mezotermal waters (reaching a temperature of about 26-27 degrees Celsius), waters that flow spectacularly over the travertine rocks.

Declared natural monument, the waterfall, unique in our country and the second in Europe (after the waterfall of Saturnia - Italy), lies in a protected area of national interest, part of a natural geological and landscape reservation. A wonder of the nature, it frequently changes its colour (from white to brown) due to the travertine deposits. In the winter, the waterfall does not freeze completely, but due to the very low temperatures in the area, stalactites of ice are formed, thus providing a fairy-tale glacial image.

In addition to this fabulous waterfall, the town of Toplita is endowed by the nature with another two thermal springs: a spring, whose waters reach a temperature of 27.5 degrees Celsius are captured in a basin and the second source of thermal water, whose waters are collected in a swimming pool. The two thermal pools, Banffy and Urmanczy, are modernly appointed and feature a sandy beach and grassy beach. The Banffy SPA Center consists of two swimming pools: a covered one, in which the water temperature is 28 degrees and another discovered which is used during the summer. The SPA centre is dotated with sauna, jacuzzi and fitness room.

Once you reach this beautiful mountain town, you can also visit other tourist objectives:

The Monastery of Saint Elias The Prophet – a historical monument of 1847, founded by Miron Cristea, the first patriarch of Romania;

The Baron Urmanczy's Castle - a mansion of the noble family Urmanczy, built in 1906, turned into an ethnographic museum;

The Monastery of the Lady - a historic monument church, built in 1658;

The Toplița-Deda Gorges - a landscape monument;

The Calimani Mountains - the highest mountains of the volcanic chain of the Eastern Carpathians with a spectacular touristic trails and many attractive attractions, such as: The Iezer Lake (from volcanic origin),  the "Nature Reserve 12 Apostles" and the picturesque mountain peaks (Negoiu, Izvor, Pietrosu).
