The Corvin Castle of Hunedoara, a fascinating place and rich in history, is visited every year by tourists from all over the world, keen on paranormal phenomena or ghosts. Nearly every room of the Hunyadi Castle has a legend that scares the tourists. In addition, the castle of the Carpathians became famous for its stories that shudder about Vlad the Impaler, the bloody Dracula, that many tourists believe he was jailed in the prisons of this fabulous medieval fortress.

Every year, in early May, the tourists who want to spend May 1 in a particular way, are expected at the Corvin Castle, that hosts the international festival named "Dracula Festival", an event that has already become a tradition. At the Dracula Festival, which is held between the 2 and 3 May, the visitors of the Hunyadi Castle can discover the story that captivated the world, and that is, the story of Dracula. The festival aims to combine in a unique reality and myth in a medieval atmosphere, presenting the real life of Prince Vlad the Impaler behind the myth of Count Dracula, the bloodthirsty character.  

The Dracula Festival brings tourists in a medieval atmosphere.

Documentaries on the life of Prince Vlad Drăculea the Impaler, an impressive medieval dance, fire shows, medieval contests, mock battles between riders or sword lessons. These are just some of the actions that await tourists to Dracula Festival. Thus, at the special event held at the Corvin Castle, tourists can learn how to shoot a bow, to touch replicas of medieval weapons or wear armor. Everything just to restore the medieval setting.

The Dracula Festival is organized by the Romanian Treasures that aims to promote Romania, but also the traditions, history and the fascinating legends of our country, which have traveled the world. Everything inside the festival is presented in an antithesis between the myth of Dracula and the true history of Prince Vlad the Impaler.  

The myth of Dracula, a magnet for tourists

The myth of Dracula brings more and more tourists to the Corvin Castle of Hunedoara. A legend says that Vlad the Impaler was imprisoned for seven years in the basement of the castle, and that he would frighten the guards for his cruelty. However, historians say that this story is false.

In the autumn of 2014, the Hunyadi castle became decoration for a historical film about Vlad the Impaler shot by an American film production company. The castle of Hunedoara was chosen to run the most important moments of the four-hour documentary about Prince Vlad the Impaler. The historical film "Vlad the Impaler" is directed by Keon Waxman, and among the actors there is also Dominic Purcell, the actor who starred in the series "Prison Break."
