The center of Timisoara was filled, during the weekend of 22 to 24 May, with thousands of colorful and fragrant flowers. The Municipality organized Timfloralis, the first festival of flowers in the town of Bega, an event that has had a real success.
The organizers have tried hard to turn the Victory Square of Timisoara in a fairytale place, full of flowers as never made, and they succeeded. Arcades, "hearts" of geraniums and petunias or floral "trees" enchanted the eyes of passers-by, who have not missed the chance to photograph themselves with them.
Among other things, on the Alba Iulia Street returned the roof made of hundreds of colorful umbrellas, and on the plateau of the Opera Square was built an impressive floral dome.
A piano of 1800, the star of the festival Timfloralis
For three days, in Victoria Square, but also on the streets of Alba Iulia and Mărăşeşti, were exhibited and sold flowers, accessories and trees, including five palms. However, the piece of resistance was a spectacular piano, 200 years old, which was adorned with moss, flowers and plants.
Regarding the festival program, it included an exhibition of wedding dresses and hats adorned with flowers, but also the culinary show where people of Timisoara learned to cook dishes containing flowers and herbs. In addition, the stage set up in the Opera square, the Philharmonic Banat performed symphonic concerts focused on the floral theme while the soloists of the Students’ Cultural House performed some music hall concerts.
The Festival of Flowers "Timfloralis" has proposed to bring to public attention the ancient tradition of the capital of Banat on the flowers and parks. Timisoara is recognized as the "city of flowers", after developing in 1850 a true floral industry. Before the First World War, in the gardens of the city were produced over two million flowers, which were sold throughout Europe.
