Witches Marsh, the place where presumably Dracula was killed

Near Bucharest, in Boldu – Creteasca Forest of Boldesti Village there is a place making anyone shiver. It is the Witches Marsh believed to be cursed by locals; it is also a place filled with incredible stories and legends.

At first sight, the small lake with a diameter of only five meters doesn’t impress those going there. Despite all appearance, it is said that near Witches Marsh unexplainable paranormal activities take place. The name of that marsh near Romania’s capital city is not accidental. That is because gypsy witches all around the world are attracted by the energy of that mysterious place. They all gather around the lake for engaging in various rituals and casting spells.

Those witch meetings take place most often in Boldu Forest on Sânziene[1], Saint George or Saint Andrew celebration days, when it is said that gates to other realms temporary open. That pilgrimage of witches at the small lake near Bucharest was turned into a tradition carried across generations. Witches are drawn to this place because it is said that any spell cast there comes true.

Furthermore, it is believed that Vlad Tepes, ruler of Țara Romaneasca, known in the entire world as “Dracula” was beheaded there in year 1476. So, the place has a sinister reputation without the presence of witches. Locals tell stories that Draula’s spirit still roams Witches Marsh.

There are many people that say they noticed several strange phenomena around the small lake in Boldu Forest, such as storms out of nowhere or globular lightning. Although it is only one meter and a half deep, Witches Marsh never dries and legends say it has no bottom. The animals are afraid of that lake too, they never drink water from it. One thing is certain: nobody knows how many of those odd stories are true, but Witches Marsh continues to frighten tourists going to Boldu Forest.
