The Strei Valley, the place with spectacular scenery preferred by the treasure hunters

The Strei Valley, located the western part of the country, can be considered a natural paradise. It is said that in this wonderful place would be hiding the famous treasure of gold and silver of Decebal, the Dacian king.

This corner of paradise attracts hikers because of to the breathtaking spectacular natural landscapes. Beautiful caves like the cave of the Waterfall, the cave of the Hat, the hole of the Ox, Tecuri, or Ponorul, Caesar Manea, the picturesque landscape of rare beauty and fresh air from the heart of the mountains are just some of the reasons why tourists arrive in Romania should go to see the Strei Valley, from Hunedoara County.

The Strei Valley, also called "the Dacians path", can be reached by starting from Baru-Mare, located between Hateg and Petrosani, where, on the left side a road is leading to the Şureanu Mountains and to the Strei river source, after a journey of about 35 km. Those who intend to visit the Strei Valley should know that officially there is only one viable path, namely Baru-Sea - the Strei Valley - the Lola peak - the Bulzu peak - the Porumbelu Mare peak. However, the locals know other hidden paths from where you can access the various caves of the Strei Valley.

The treasures from the Strei Valley According to some historians, the treasure hidden by Decebal, the Dacian king, about 2,000 years ago, would be composed of approximately 150,000 pounds of gold and silver.

According to legend, the famous treasure of the Dacian king would be in the western part of the country, in the county of Hunedoara, under the river Sargetia, also called Strei. Only part of this cursed treasure was discovered by the Romans, after the betrayal of Biciclis, the rest would still be under the river Strei.

Fascinated by these legends, many tourists come to this area, not only for the wonderful landscapes, but also for the Dacian gold from the Strei Valley. In June, a young man passionate treasure hunter, discovered several antique jewelry, but also an ax over 2,000 years old. The treasure was found on the Strei Valley with a metal detector in the woods near the village Petreni.
