Conacul Secuiesc offers a rich experience of the area’s architecture, cuisine and traditions. In addition, it is conveniently located near many tourist attractions that can be visited with a guide and that will contribute to a better understanding of the locals' way of life. The building is not a museum – bed & breakfast as many other hotels are nowadays, namely it is not an old house that was renovated.
It was actually built from the ground up between the years 2005 and 2007. But great care was taken to incorporate elements of the traditional architecture specific to Colţeşti village and to the neighboring Rîmetea village, at the same as time meeting all the needs of modern comfort. In this way, the bed & breakfast harmoniously unites the past and the present.
The rooms are elegantly decorated with exquisite hand-painted furniture and local embroideries, created with scrupulousness and passion by people who live in the area. The models represented are a reflection of the rural tradition that characterizes this area. Every item in these rooms has its own story and spirit that comes from the blood, sweat and tears that real-life people put into them.
The restaurant enhances the experience by offering a rich selection of local dishes. Firstly, there are various kinds of platters, each containing a different combination of locally produced goodies. For instance, the Szekely Platter consists of grilled chicken liver, coated chicken, coated cheese, mushrooms stuffed with goat’s cheese, home-made sausages, sauté potatoes, etc. Another scrumptious platter is the Toroczkay Platter, containing grilled pork with garlic, turkey breast stuffed with cheese, coated mushrooms and many others.
Another service the bed & breakfast offers is wine tasting in the private cellar. The wines are accompanied by a platter of tasty local cheeses, made following ecological principles. And if you would like to explore the surroundings, there are many things to see. To the west of the village is the Colţeşti Citadel, which was built in the 13th century, and in Rîmetea village, you will find Mt. Piatra Secuiului (1128 m), which resembles a reposing giant. Finally, you should not miss the local specialty called the “Somodi” sponge cake.
