The Potter’s House – Craftsmanship and Soul in Maramureș

Daniel Leș is the artist who discovered the deeper meanings of pottery and chose to share this experience with others. Shaping clay helped him reshape his own life and return to his ancestral home. From this journey was born the Potter’s House – a place where life is lived simply, with love for people, nature, and God.

The Potter’s House

The artist’s intention was to recreate, for those who wish to attend the creative camps, the living conditions of potters from times past. In a world where technology takes over daily life, the potter must remain close to his roots. With this in mind, the rooms have been carefully decorated in a rustic style, so as not to stray from the spirit of Maramureș.

On the ground floor of the main house, an apartment has been arranged that preserves the character of a traditional peasant home, with a porch and two rooms. From the windows, you can see the mountains rising with their peaks toward the sky.

In the courtyard of the house, campfires rise at night, while during the day pottery demonstrations are held in the workshops, where guests can participate directly. They extract the clay themselves from a depth of four meters, prepare it, shape it, and subject it to the firing process, all while reflecting on the deeper meanings of life and experiencing the joy of transforming clay.

The cuisine is traditional, with carefully selected dishes prepared just like in grandmother’s time, and dinners by lamplight evoke the emotion of traveling back in time, to the days of grandparents and great-grandparents, and the stories told by the stove.

Two more old earthen houses with shingle roofs, as well as an authentic miner’s house from Baia Sprie, have been added to the guesthouse. These are the Clay House and the Miner’s House, where national and international creative camps are organized for both children and adults.

Additionally, the surrounding area offers opportunities for hiking through wonderful places steeped in ancestral traditions. It is a tourist region with many attractions to visit: the wooden churches of Plopiș, Bârsana, and Surdești, the Creasta Cocoșului geological reserve, the Blue Lake, Lake Mogoșa, the Chiuzbaia fossil reserve, and more.

If you wish to experience the joy of a memorable symbiosis between art, spirit, and nature, if you seek moments of revelation, introspection, depth, and rediscovery, do not hesitate to visit the Potter’s House and allow yourself to be carried away by time and authentic experiences.
