The history of the Viile Metamorfosis Wine Cellar begun in 2001 when Giancorrado Ulrich, the future president of the Vitis Metamorfosis Company visited Romania and convinced himself of the potential vine growing area of the Dealu Mare and upon his return to Italy he made an association with the Antinori Marquis, John Hallewood and the oenologist Fiorenzzo Rista in order to create a brand dedicated to premium wines.
In 2008, the Metamorfosis Vineyards were established on an area of 100 hectares and in 2012 - 2014 the wine cellar from Vadu Săpat was completely renovated and new technology was brought. The winery produces 325 000 liters of wine annually and it has a production capacity of 500,000 bottles of wine. It cultivates both local and international grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Feteasca Neagra, Negru de Drăgășani, Feteasca Regala, Feteasca Alba, Tamaioasa Romaneasca, Muscat Ottonel, Merlot, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
In 2013 Metamorfosis Vineyards obtained Austria Bio Guarantee certification for the 15 hectares of organically grown vines.
The brand of the company is represented by the range: Via Colțul Pietrei, Cantus Primus, Viile Metamorfosis and Via Marchizului.
The Antinori family has been producing wine for over 600 years and its history spans over 26 generations. It was recognized for its innovative business decisions and the respect for tradition and the land. The Marquis Piero Antinori is today the director of the company and carries on the success of the company, governed by the principles of his ancestors regarding the renewal of tradition and the innovative spirit.
The success of the Viile Metamorfosis Winery stands out in the awards obtained by its wines. At the Intrenational Wine Contest Bucharest in 2018 it obtained two gold medals with Fetească Neagră - 2016 - Viile Metamorfosis range and Sauvignon Blanc - 2017 - Via Colțul Pietrei range. In 2016 at the Decanter World Wine Awards in England Viile Metamorfosis Winery won the Bronze Medal with Fluturi Feteasca Regala (Feteasca Regala Butterflies) - 2015 - an organic, white wine. In 2017, at the Decanter World Wine Awards it won four awards for four wines entered in the competition: the silver medal with Cantus Primus Feteasca Neagra Eco - 2013, the bronze medal with Via Colțul Pietrei - Syrah - 2015 and two mentions with Via Colțul Pietrei - Sauvignon Blanc - 2016 and Viile Metamorfosis - Cabernet Sauvignon - 2016. At the prestigious competition in England the Global Cabernet Sauvignon Masters 2015, organized by The Drinks Bussiness Viile Metamorfosis Winery won the silver medal with Cantus Primus - Cabernet Sauvignon - 2009 and the bronze medal with Viile Metamorfosis Cabernet Sauvignon - 2012.
