Cătălin Botezatu – the most successful Romanian fashion designer

Cătălin Botezatu was born on December 3rd 1966 in Alexandria. He worked as a model before he became a designer and was highly appreciated internationally. His work was rewarded in 1985 with the prize for best model of the year.

Having become passionate about fashion during his work as a model, Catalin Botezatu enrolled himself at the European Fashion Institute in Milan, where he studied under the respectable Gianni Versace. The renowned fashion designer, impressed with the talent of his promising student, asked the latter to work at the Versace Workshops in Milan for 6 months. After finishing his internship, Botezatu returned to Romania and opened his own fashion house in Bucharest. He named it Delphi.

He quickly started attracting attention to himself by winning numerous prestigious awards. In 1996 and 1998, he won the prize for best Romanian designer, while in 1999 he won the excellence award from VIP magazine.

In the year 2000, Cătălin Botezatu became the first designer in the world to gain permission to do a shooting in the most sacred places in Egypt: the pyramids, the Sphinx and several temples. The collection called Egyption was presented in Cairo and Luxor.

In 2004, Catalin Botezatu was the first Romanian designer to be dedicated two pages in the prestigious fashion magazine, Book Moda. Then, in 2005, Deutsche Welle and Financial Times reporters came to Bucharest in order to do stories on Botezatu. Euronews also aired an ample reportage about the Romanian designer.  

Also in 2005, the designer launched his Chicago collection in Bucharest and only a week later, he presented it again on the stage of the Moulin Rouge in Paris, becoming the first designer to have ever accomplished this.

Another thing that he can boast of is the fact that he is one of the few designers who have had fashion shows on all of the continents.
