The history of the Galicea Mare Estate starts in 1916 when George Valentin Bibescu built the estate winery and planted 15 hectares of vineyards with noble varieties and after three years he obtained the first wine of the Galicea Mare Estate.
George Valentin Bibescu was one of the most well-known Romanian aviators, the founder of Băneasa Airport, of the Automobile Romanian Club and of the Romanian Aviatic Club and his passion for flying was combined with the passion for the Oltenia Hills wine. The property was sold and then passed into the state ownership during the communist period.
In 2016, after 100 years of the first wine production Galicea Mare Estate, Iosefin Florea restored the estate and provided the winery with the most modern technologies but at the same time maintaining the traditional technologies of wine production, without the addition of the additives or yeasts.
Galicea Mare Vineyard is almost 100% an organic vineyard. It has a cultivated area of 50 hectares and an annual production of 120,000 liters of wine per year.
The cultivated grape varieties are: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Feteasca Neagră, Pinot Gris and Tămâioasa Românească. The Galicea Mare Estate wines are under the brand: Galicea Mare and Martha and it is marketed by the big chains of specialized stores but also online.
