Easter Monday – a day of giving, shared meals, and joy within the family

After the solemnity and profound emotion of the Resurrection, Easter Monday brings a warm, intimate atmosphere, where the focus is on gatherings, visits, and togetherness.

Easter Monday – a day of giving, shared meals, and joy in the family.

It is the day when people visit one another, carrying forward the joy of the holiday through simple yet meaningful gestures.

In Romanian tradition, this day is closely linked to the idea of sharing. Those who go visiting do not arrive empty-handed; they bring with them parts of the festive meal: pască, cozonac, red eggs, or sweets. In turn, the hosts offer dishes they have prepared, so that gifts circulate from house to house as a symbol of generosity and human connection.

The table remains at the heart of this day, not through abundance, but through what it creates: closeness, communication, and love. Every dish is shared, every gesture is accompanied by the Easter greeting:
— “Christ is risen!”
— “Indeed, He is risen!”

The traditional Easter menu continues to be present on this day. Red eggs, symbols of life and sacrifice, are joyfully tapped and offered. Drob, made from lamb organs and herbs, remains one of the staple dishes, alongside roasted lamb, tender and flavorful.

Baked goods are also essential: pască, with its delicate taste and deep symbolism, and cozonac, sweet and fluffy, evoking childhood and family gatherings. In some households, older recipes are still preserved, such as lamb dishes with spring greens, adding authentic flavors to the table.

Yet beyond all these dishes, the essence of the day lies not on the plates, but in the people. Easter Monday is about reunions, time spent together, quiet conversations, and the sincere joy of being close to one another.

It is the day when the table becomes a pretext for the soul, and the gifts offered—whether a slice of cozonac or a red egg—carry more than taste: they carry care, respect, and love.

Thus, tradition lives on not only through customs, but through people—through the way they choose to share, to give, and to rejoice together.

Christ is risen!
