40 kilometres from Ploiești, on the valley of the Slănic Creek, one of the most beautiful Romanian resorts is located. Here, relaxing blends harmoniously with the therapy provided by the concentrated chloride-sodium waters and the pure air provided by the underground microclimate in the salt mine.

Slănic Resort, surrounded by two rows of hills and wonderful landscapes, offers tourists unique attractions, such as: Unirea Salt Mine, Salt Mountain with the Bride's Cave and other salt lakes. The history of the salt mine begins somewhere around 1685, when Mihail Cantacuzino bought the Slănic estate and opened a salt mine here.

The beneficial effect of water and mud became famous after 1885, when an officer suffering from rheumatism, after therapy with mud and salt baths, went home completely healed.

Unirea Mine was opened in 1943. After 1972, when the exploitation stopped, the salt mine was opened to for tourists to visit, but also for therapy. Treatments under medical supervision can also be provided here.

In the 1970s, access to the mine was made with the help of a "cage", which descended through the extraction pit to a depth of 208 meters. Nowadays you can get to the salt mine by minibuses. The temperature in the salt mine does not exceed 13 degrees Celsius, and the humidity is about 60%, so that saline aerosols have beneficial effects on the body.

The Hall of Genesis, where the salt-carved busts of Trajan, Decebalus and Burebista are placed, is one of the important attractions of the salt mine. The Salt Mountain and Bride’s Cave Lake are parts of a natural park unique in Europe. The mountain was formed by the downfall of salt mines, around 1800. Over the years, natural erosion phenomena have completed the natural masterpiece. In the resort there are other salt lakes, on their shores beaches for heliotherapy are arranged: Baia Baciului, Baia Porurilor, Baia Roșie.

The area also offers other tourist attractions that are worth visiting, such as the four churches, declared architectural monuments and the local Art Museum.
