The beautiful monastery was founded by the stolnic Badea Bolosin, in the late 1500s, when the ruler was Alexandru Voievod.
It worked as a place of worship for the monks until the impropriation of the monastic properties, performed during the reign of Alexandru Ioan Cuza. Since then, the place of worship became a regular church.
The foundations of the old bell tower and of the surrounding wall were discovered following archaeological diggings in the area.
The monastery is set in a magnificent landscape, having Cobiuta (a small water course) on one side and being surrounded on the other two sides by a copse of old walnut trees. Behind it, there is a wooded hill, strewn with clearings. A piece of heaven, which has in its middle an architectonic monument, loaded with history and spirituality.
The church, simple and slender, giving off an air of nobility, displays its external splendor made up of green, brown and umber enameled, multicolored bricks, just like a flowery meadow. At night, the moon beams reflect upon the colored bricks and light up the whole church. It is an extravaganza of moon light combined with various colors. Such outstanding decoration of the facade makes it a one of a kind place of worship.
The church is of a triconic type, being made up of an altar, a naos and a pronaos. The four towers, as well as the external walls of the church, display a particular decorative technique. The external walls are decorated with a row of niches on the entire height of the facades. The niches are divided by wide pilasters and end up at the top in semicircular arches. Everything is completed by a relatively new, beautifully crafted mural. The light comes into the pronaos through the four windows disposed two by two on the sides, and the iconostasis is made up of a thick wall.
A semantron contest is held here every year (on the 1st of July). The wonderful sounds pierce through the walnut copse, towards the village and fade away in the sky. A magnificent place, a place where you may be animated by feelings of joy, feel uplifted and filled with laudation. If you come to Dambovita County, do not hesitate to visit this architectural masterpiece.
