The waters of the Nera River and its tributaries have dug deep in the calcareous rocks, therefore giving birth, along the time, to different lakes, canyons, caves and waterfalls which make up a fabulous landscape, just waiting to be admired by the nature- and beauty-loving tourists. A walk along Nera Gorges is easy to take on, even by children.
The 22 kilometers between the villages of Şopotul Nou and Sasca Română travel through different oxbows and twisted loops, between high rocky walls that, in some areas, reach 200 meters. The route follows sections marked by suspended bridges (which facilitate water crossing), paths running through glades filled with flowers and alternating with steep foot pathsbetween rocks, or with rock-pit tunnels crossing cool beech forests.
Here and there, Nera churns and spouts its water over the calcareous rocks, thus forming waterfalls of an unseen beauty, or mildly halts in waterholes of a surreal blue.
Once reaching the Nera Gorges, don’t hesitate to visit as many sites found nearby as possible so that you may feast on the beauties of nature and rejoice with peace.
Ochiul Beiului– a waterhole whose beauty possesses a hypnotizing effect, offering deep calm, peace and inner serenity.
Beușnița Cascade–a true spectacle of waters churning over the rocks covered in crude green moss.
La Văioaga Cascade – an impressing waterfall, among rocks covered in plants and trees lowering their greened branches over the insurgent river.
Devil's Lake–a monument of nature in the middle of the woods, a carst lake of a particular color, created by the fall of a cave’s ceiling over a subterranean lake.
For the watersport passionate, rafting is available on the Nera River and, on your way to Bozovici, you may also encounter the famous Bigăr Cascade, one of the most marvelous cascades in the whole world.
