More than a century ago, the story of Basilescu Winery begins with Nicolae and Aristide Basilescu, father and son, who share the same ideals: integrity, love, revolutionary vision and devotion, all captured by Basilescu wine. Nicolae Basilescu, dean of the Faculty of Law in Bucharest during the interwar period, founded the current winery and his son, Aristide, the head of the Economics Department of the University of Bucharest continued the business until nationalization during the communist regime. The family's properties were confiscated in 1949 and in 2003 Colette Basilescu, the heir of the family, came into possession of the vineyards and the mansion from Urlați. The current Basilescu Winery was built in 2008 and produces wines with DOC Dealul Mare, Pietroasa in which the terroir's imprint feels strong, generating a range of high quality wines.
