Easy to cook but very tasty and substantial - so can be described in a few words one of the favourite dishes of the Romanians, that is, smoked pork shank with beans.

It is cooked by most Romanian women from every region of the country. This dish is served, in particular, for Romania's National Day. The smoked shank can be replaced by smoked sausage, which is also very delicious.

Accompanied by the under vinegars, this traditional Romanian dish is excellent, a finger-licking good. It should not miss the glass of ”tuica”, a traditional Romanian brandy. It is said that the military cooks have created the original recipe of smoked pork shank with beans. This preparation cooked in the pot is considered the tastiest dish of the military canteen.

For several years, at the initiative of the country's TV stations, the smoked pork shank with beans or sausage became the traditional dish that is served by 1 December.

How to prepare the smoked pork shank with beans?

Ingredients: 400 grams of dried beans, two onions, two carrots, half a head of celery, parsley root, a green pepper, two teaspoons of sweet paprika, a teaspoon of crushed thyme, smoked shank and a five-liter water .

Preparation: put the dried beans in cold water the night before to be prepared. Boil them three times and than bring to boil with the smoked shank in cold water. When the beans are peeled, it means they are boiled, it is time to add the woole vegetables.

Everything is left to boil until the meat is getting off the bones. The smoked shank is removed while the vegetables are crushed and then added to food. Add the sweet paprika, thyme, salt and pepper. The smoked shank with beans are served with pickled cucumbers or red onion salad, writes Petit Chef.
